Meaning of Mahamrityunjay Mantra :
Explanation of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra :
The maha mrityunjay mantra is a prayer to Lord Shiva who is addressed as Shankara and Trayambaka.
Shankara is shana (blessings) and Kara (the Giver). Trayambaka is the three eyed
one (where the third eye signifies the giver of knowledge, who destroys
ignorance and releases us from the cycle of death and rebirth).
The
Maha Mrityunjay Mantra or Lord Shiva Mantra is considered extremely powerful and
significant by the Hindus. Also known as the Moksha Mantra of Lord Shiva,
chanting of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is said to create divine vibrations that
heals. Devotees of Lord Shiva further believe that Maha Mrityunjay evokes the
Shiva within human beings and removes the fear of death, liberating one from the
cycle of death and rebirth.
Significance of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra :
The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra restores health and happiness and brings
calmness in the face of death. When courage or determination are blocked, it
rises up to overcome obstacles. It awakens a healing force that reaches deep
into the body and mind.
Devotees strongly believe that proper recitation of the Maha Mrityunjaya rejuvenates, bestows health, wealth, long life, peace, prosperity and contentment. It is said that chanting of Shiva Mantra generates divine vibrations that ward off all the negative and evil forces and creates a powerful protective shield. Besides, it is said to protect the one who chants against accidents and misfortunes of every kind.
Recitation of the
maha mrityunjaya mantra creates
vibration that pulsates through every cell, every molecule of human body and
tears away the veil of ignorance. Hindus believe that recitation of the maha
mrityunjaya mantra
ignites a fire within that consumes all negativity and purifies entire system.
It is also said to have a strong healing power and can cure diseases declared
incurable even by the doctors. Many believe Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra to be a
mantra that can conquer death and connect human beings to their own inner
divinity.
Just as a plant patiently gathers nutrients from the soil, so healing and
nourishing forces enter the human body through foods, medicines, supportive
emotions, and encouraging thoughts. The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra attracts these
forces and creates an inner environment to enhance their effectiveness. Thus the
mantra can be used whenever any restorative process is undertaken.
The mantra can be recited when taking medicines, for it prepares the body and
mind to make the best use of them. In India, when ash (bhasma) is applied to the
body (as either a medicinal or a spiritual act) the mantra is recited. And so,
whenever matters of health, vitality, nurturance, or freedom from the fears
associated with death arise, the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra naturally surface as a
remedy and comfort.
It is also said that those in the healing profession will benefit from reciting
the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra regularly. Through it, they will draw from an
infinite reserve of energy, and thus prevent burnout while opening a channel of
healing from which life can be nourished.
Chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra with sincerity, faith and devotion in Bramha Muhurata is very beneficial. But one can also do Maha Mrityunjaya japa anytime in a pure environment with great benefit and discover the happiness that's already within.
Maha Mritunjay Homam :
Maha Mruthyunjaya Homam is dedicated to Lord Shiva to avoid untimely death. The Maha Mrityunjaya Homam is performed to achieve Jaya or Victory over Mritya or death. The object of worship of this homa is Lord Shiva. One of the synonyms of Lord Shiva is Mrityu. Mrityu which means death of the death or the destroyer of death. During this homa one chants 21 mantras. The prominent offerings in this homa are durva grass and an herb called amrita. The former is famous for purifying blood and the latter is used as a medicine for incurable diseases like arbuda or cancer. Since these are used as offerings in this homa, it is believed that this homam bestows longevity on the performer. The hymns are devoted to Mrityu, the God of death, praying for long life. These hymns are used in the purnahuti or the final offering in the famous Soma sacrifice. This homa also alleviates Mrityu dosha or untimely death.
